Two kinds of workouts.

Two Kinds of Exercise

Working out and any kind of physical exercise has its benefits. Who doesn’t want to feel and look good? God wants us to take care of our bodies, as it is a way for us to bring him glory. Did you know there are two kinds of workouts?

“You were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 6:20

While working out is beneficial, working out yourself spiritually is far more important.

“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things,
holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
1 Timothy 4:8

If you are willing to work hard in the gym, why not put the same energy and time into strengthening your relationship with Jesus?

When beginning my journey with working out, I became very obsessed with trying to look a certain way. I found my value in the way I looked. This kind of mindset is a normal thing to experience. We are human, and it is in our nature to think this way sometimes. The world we live in is very obsessed with the idea of looking a certain way or being a certain number on the scale. Living a life constantly comparing yourself and obsessing over numbers is going to bring you down a path that is not glorifying to God.

When we do this, we begin to make ourselves and working out an idol. It will seem harmless, but we begin to boast in ourselves, when we should really be boasting in the Lord.

“Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:31

Taking care of your body is a gift, so let us not forget to show God our thankfulness by spending time with him in his Word, along with exercising healthy habits.

Ps. Come see us in the Family Life Center! We would love to meet you and find ways to get you involved in our Activities Ministry!
