Starting a New Workout Regimen

StartExerciseMain

It’s a new year, and with the new year comes the common motto, “New Year, new me!”

Beginning is exciting and it almost feels like you get the chance to start over and have fresh start. The most common resolution is getting healthy in the new year. Usually, these resolutions die off within the first month of starting them. This can be because you lack motivation or aren’t sure how to start.

Starting a new workout plan, especially if its new to you, can be scary. The first step is to establish an overall goal for the year, and from there set small achievable goals for where you are when you start. Focusing on the end goal can seem impossible and that’s also why people will quit so early on.

What is your goal for the year?

For example, let’s say you want to drop 30 lbs. by the end of May. This is possible with the right discipline and plan! Instead of stressing and focusing so much on the end goal, start where you are currently.

Start by finding a workout regimen that works for you. Earlier in the “Winter Challenge” book you will find resources on how to start a walking/running routine. This can be a great place to start. If you are looking to tone up and focus on strength training, this is the blog for you!

Things you can do to start your strength training journey:

  1. Find a gym!

Did you know that here at FBCA we have a gym? Take advantage of our amazing equipment and get started here! We have dumbbells, kettlebells, and machines to get you started!

If you’re not sure where to start, check out my “Fit with Hiit” class on Thursday evenings at 6pm where we focus on strengthening our muscles and conditioning our bodies! It’s perfect for ALL skill levels.

  1. Download an exercise app!

These apps are perfect if you are looking for an easy at home workout. You can use body weight or weights. It’s a great way to start and will expand your knowledge on certain exercises. It’s also a great way to track your workouts and keep yourself accountable.

Here are a couple of great examples:

Apps:

-Home workout- No equipment app (red app with man doing pushups)

-7 minute workout- exercise app (green logo that says 7M)

  1. Find a workout buddy!

Having a friend to workout with can make your time more enjoyable. It is also proven to keep you more accountable. Set up a time with your friend to meet up and get your workout done! If you’re not able to meet and workout together, start a workout plan around the same time and communicate during the process. Sometimes it’s hard to start something new alone, so this is a great way to start. This will keep you motivated!

Getting started is the hard part. It is up to you to take that first step. You never know, you may fall in love with fitness. The first few weeks may be difficult, but the stronger you get, the more conditioned your body will get. You will be amazed at the things your body can do with consistency and discipline. Once you see progress you will be so glad you started, and you will feel better than ever.
