Flourishing Together

At First Baptist Arlington, our mission is to become fruitful believers who are influencing our world for Christ. We use the imagery of the Psalm 1 Tree to help illustrate how this looks in our lives.

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither; whatever they do prospers” (Psalm 1:1-3).

God wants us to love him, listen to him, and do what’s right. He created us and he knows that’s the only way for us to live life to the fullest.

There are 3 parts of a healthy, productive Psalm 1 Tree that we focus on.

Your “roots” are reflected in your core identity. Who are you? What are your main convictions and beliefs? Do you love God and take him seriously? We want everyone to find their core identity in Christ.

Your “trunk” is reflected in your personal growth. What is happening to you? What kind of person are you becoming? What are you focused on? We want everyone to embrace God’s Word and be transformed from the inside out.

Your “branches” are reflected in your influence on others. What is happening through you? What kind of family member, friend, classmate, or co-worker are you? We want everyone to be a fruitful follower of Jesus.

We’ve began a 3-year journey entitled “Flourishing Together.” God’s original command to humanity was to “be fruitful” (Genesis 1:28). We believe that’s still his intention for us today. In fact, human flourishing can be summed up by the statement: “living as God intends.”

We hope you’ll join us on this adventure as we discover and apply God’s eternal purpose for our lives.
