Mind – dianoia – “full understanding”
We are to engage the mind of children and shape their journey of spiritual discovery. The goal is to lead them to be responsible, mature decision-makers.
Jerome Bruner – Learning Theory
1. The Enactive Stage – children learn through activity
2. The Iconic Stage – children utilizes images
3. Symbolic Representation – language and symbols assist the child in assimilating and storing information.
David Kolb – Learning Styles
Kolb’s theory is based on his belief in the integration of perception and processing.
HOMEWORK: ‘Rithmetic – Reasoning
-We should lead our children to redemption in Christ.
-We should assist our children in developing reasoning and decision-making skills.
-We should assist our children in developing a value system that is Biblically-based and Christ-centered.
34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” (ESV)
