Master Planning and Finance Committee Recommends Improvements to North Facade

The Master Planning Committee and Finance Committee are recommending that First Baptist Church Arlington approve funding for the North Façade improvements of the Welcome Center, Parlor and mechanical areas of our building located on the south side of South Street between Center Street and Pecan Street. These improvements are intended to enhance the least attractive side of our church façade. In addition, the improvements will enhance the appearance of our facility as it faces the new city park under construction. The following architectural drawing reflects the improvements.

The facade improvements are:

· Construct two canopies over the north and east door entrances to the new Welcome Center.

· Replace the sidewalks along the curb on the south side of South Street from Center to Pecan. These new sidewalks will include pavers similar to those on Center Street.

· Install six street lights along South Street similar to those on Center Street.

· Remove the covered canopy at the Parlor entrance and replace it with a gabled canopy similar to the other door canopies.

· Replace the door and windows in the Parlor area with energy efficient systems that resemble those in the new Welcome Center.

· Construct a 7 foot brick wall surrounding the electric transformer and gas meter.

· Install a metal screening system to hide the HVAC mechanical equipment on the roof of the church’s mechanical room.

· Replace the existing fence around the playground with a wrought iron fence with brick columns.

The following is the wording of the recommendation as presented by the Master Planning Committee, Finance Committee and joined by the Deacon Council:

The Finance Committee recommends that the church move forward with the recommendation of the Master Planning Committee related to the improvements to the North Façade along South Street at a cost not to exceed $320,000 with funding to come from gas lease monies received from the downtown First Baptist Church Arlington properties. If interim financing is required, that funding could come from the Extreme Makeover funds, Huff gas lease funds or the Huff Fund.

Called Church Conference

The called church conference will take place on Wednesday, July 9 at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. A recommendation will be presented from the Finance Committee and the Master Planning Committee regarding funding for improvements to the north façade of the Welcome Center and parlor areas. There will be an open discussion regarding this recommendation on July 9. The called church conference will reconvene on Sunday, July 13, and the church will vote without discussion in all three worship services.
