What year did you start working
at First Baptist?
1985
Tell us how you came to know
Christ:
Through
the influence of a Sunday School teacher when I was in the 3rd grade,
living in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was a college football player at
OSU.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Working one-on-one, & in small groups with folks in my ministry area.
What’s your favorite Bible verse currently?
“…but
this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward
to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the
heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
What do you feel like God is teaching you lately?
To “be still”…
What are your hobbies?
Running, spending lots of time w/grandkids (all 8 of them)
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?
Coach…because my coaches growing up had influenced my life a great deal.
Tell us a bit about your
family?
My
wife, LaVon, and I will have been married 47 years this spring…we have
3 amazing kids, and 8 grandkids (2 dogs). Our youngest is our
daughter…married for 2 years, has a son, lives in Dallas. Our middle
child is a son, been married 19 years, 4 children, lives in Tulsa.
Oldest child is a son, been married 17 years, 3 sons, lives in Sanger,
TX.
What’s your favorite meal and who would be attending?
Barbecue
w/all the trimmings…lots of spice sauce, and tons of Tobasco…refills on
coffee. Attended by our entire family…all 16 of us!
Tell us a little known fact about yourself:
I
wasn’t in ministry, or considering going into ministry when my wife and
I married. That didn’t happen until several years into marriage.
Why should someone get involved at First Baptist
Church
Arlington:
It is a very “open-to-new-ideas” church…not a church stuck
in an expected mold of all other churches. In 25 years of ministry
here, I’ve watched time and time again as we have reached out to
embrace new avenues of ministry. My own ministry is an example of
something that didn’t exist two years ago! |
